Clean energy access is essential for accelerating inclusive growth, reducing poverty and inequality, delivering critical goods and services, reducing fragility and conflict, and promoting climate change adaptation and mitigation. Lack of reliable energy access inhibits Sub-Saharan Africa's green, resilient, and inclusive development.
Open Capital has deep experience in the clean energy sector, working to transition Africa to a green future. We work alongside operators, investors, and development partners to facilitate investment and grow the sector, having advised 350+ engagements and raised over USD 950M in capital for the sector. We have worked with numerous financiers to design energy fund structures & conduct commercial due diligence and provide pre- and post-investment technical assistance to clean energy companies.

We have been engaged by leading stakeholders in the energy sector to conduct research and publish widely disseminated research reports, (e.g., Lighting Global’s 2022 Market Trends Report), and country-level reports in Uganda, Zambia, Niger, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, among others. We specialize in translating our findings into actionable interventions.
Ecosystem innovation:
We have pioneered catalytic ecosystem initiatives to advance clean energy access, such as the Green Gensets Facility (GGF), Africa E-mobility Accelerator, Uganda Off-Grid Market Accelerator (UOMA) & VentureBuilder.
