Situation
MobiPay is an AgTech serving over 350,000 smallholder farmers in Northern and Eastern Uganda, founded by Ugandan entrepreneur Eric Nana Kwabena Agyei. MobiPay helps 350,000 Ugandan farmers create market linkages and access financing. The company was growing quickly and needed a strategy to prioritize and phase their growth plans, for example setting up an agro-processing plant and providing loans to SHFs.
Our Process
Our team worked closely with Eric and his leadership to build a strategy they could own. As part of the process, we recommended improvements to their products to increase reliability and provide value-added services and created an implementation plan with steps their team could own.
MobiPay implemented Open Capital’s strategic recommendations which have led to several big early wins including obtaining two licences enabling them to lend directly and securing $490,000 of finance to scale its technology within its target communities. We are excited to see how far MobiPay can grow, reaching hundreds of thousands more farmers in Uganda!
