VentureBuilder (VB) is a new type of financing vehicle developed by Open Capital and Catalyst Off-Grid Advisors. It is pioneering a new model to support and scale African-owned and managed distributors by providing deep technical expertise and early stage equity capital.
Our Focus
Our initial focus is energy access, since innovations such as solar home systems still are not reaching millions of rural customers across Africa. We partner with local distributors who have years of experience serving hard-to-reach local customers but lack sufficient expertise and capital to launch and scale energy access businesses that offer consumer credit (e.g. pay-as-you-go (PAYG).
VentureBuilder provides enterprise development services and investment capital that enables distributors to sustainably scale and more cost-effectively reach thousands of unserved customers with affordable, reliable, modern energy. We believe this approach will build a new generation of local solar companies, capable of reaching populations that cannot be accessed by the current model of large, vertically integrated businesses.
