Interim CFO developed full back-end systems for logistics company

Situation

Medium-sized logistics company with positive cash flow was regularly running out of cash or missing Board milestones.

Our Process

The Analyst supported the client by:

  •  Creating new reporting templates and management dashboards
  • Developing policies + procedures
  • Creating 5-year model + drafted investor presentation
  • Coaching finance team members
  • Overhauled cash management, eliminated working capital crises
  • Developed dashboards and trained junior team to continue systems
  • Served as resource on strategic questions, enabling senior mgmt. decisions

Client's perspective

We decided to bring the Analyst on board because our financial reporting was causing a lot of problems. We didn't have the time to find a permanent CFO — that takes at least 4 months, even if you find the right person —so we decided to look at an embedded short-term role instead. There really wasn't anything that didn't go well. He was flexible and adaptable and helped build our bookkeeping capacity, training our clerk. We were very impressed. He worked hard, fit in immediately, required limited guidance to get everything we wanted done, satisfied our stakeholders that we were getting our financial management under control, and even did things we hadn't really expected, like pulling together pitch materials and building passenger analyses. He blended in very well, and was really a part of the team, involved at all levels.
