Meet Ann Munyua – OCA Project Leader

How did you join OCA?

In my third year of university, I started to think more seriously about the kind of job that I’d like to do after completing school. I knew that I wanted a job that would allow me to be creative, provide solutions, and make an impact in the communities around me. When the OCA team came to my university for a career fair, the role they spoke about just seemed to tick all the boxes, so I applied for the Analyst role and thankfully got hired.

You’re now a Project Leader, what does that entail?

I focus on driving my projects forward by managing timelines and scope of work, providing support to my teams, as well as being a thought partner to clients and ensuring they receive value. I also support our business development efforts by both delivering value in my projects to help us get repeat work or referrals, as well as occasionally working on proposals directly. Besides this, I serve as a mentor to fellow Analysts and Associates at the firm which I love. It’s really great to see the growth and journey of my mentees over several years and feel that I was a part of it. Our mentorship program is very strong and supports the team in their work both at OCA, as well as their career beyond.

How would you describe the team?

The team is incredibly smart, energetic, and driven, and everyone’s input is valued. For instance, we don’t let our junior staff sit back when engaging our clients, but rather believe in giving them opportunities to lead from the very start of their careers. I’ve also found that everyone is willing to take time out of their busy schedules to help you when you need it, whether it’s a quick coffee chat, or a brainstorm to help you think through things.

What have you loved about working at OCA?

I’ve really loved the diverse work I’ve been involved in at the firm over the years. When you’re an Analyst and Associate, you’re exposed to many different projects, sectors and clients. You still get this diversity at the Project Leader level but can also focus on certain areas that you really enjoy. I personally love the water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) sector because of its enormous impact on the communities around me. I’ve also recently joined the Gender Smart Approaches team to help drive that initiative forward.

How do you like to spend your time outside of work?

Outside of work, I’m a mom and love reading fiction and writing short articles and poems. I’m currently looking forward to publishing a book in the next year or so!
